This abstract is concerned with the introduction of the concepts of augmentative and alternative communications for the non-verbal and minimally verbal, with focus on the following:
1. Define the means of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and argue the benefits of using AAC particularly against the stigma in the Middle East regarding such means.
2. Discuss the role of technology such as AAC Apps and Speech Generation Devices. 3. Introduce strategies for transitioning children with no modality or those who have some speech modality such as sign language or PECS to AAC. 4. Introduce opportunities for language development and learning that AAC and SGD can offer to people with speech difficulties or challenges.
