This presentation aims to explore the role of Seating and Mobility Services (SAMS) with applications of powered mobility and alternative controls.
The Seating and Mobility Service SAMS is an initiative of the Occupational Therapy Department, Rumailah Hospital that came into fruition in 2008. The service aims to provide 24 hour postural management solutions for people with a wide range of physical and learning disabilities. The service covers inpatient and outpatient clinics, including home and school visits throughout the country, covering both adult and paediatric population.
In the practical session, we will share our experiences in providing Assistive Technologies that enable mobility to children and their families who are living in Qatar. Both direct and indirect access methods are demonstrated for powered wheelchairs and integrated systems. The wheelchair skills test (WST) for powered mobility is also introduced. Case examples from the SAMS multi-disciplinary seating team are also presented.
