Overview
Session Description: Most recently, Mada worked in partnership with Bookshare and the Qatar National Library to create a comprehensive accessibility initiative that would encourage greater access to reading and writing through the newly established Qatar National Library. At the heart of this initiative, which also includes the establishment of an AT center and a reading club for the blind, is a partnership with Bookshare, the world’s largest online library of accessible digital books. Through this initiative, anyone proven to have difficulty reading printed material as a result of their disability or any functional limitation will have free access to a year-long, renewable Bookshare membership. This session will discuss the importance of greater access to literature in all its forms, and the need to create digital tools that enable such access.
