Daily Living with ASD: A Functional Approach

Overview

Daily living skills such as personal hygiene, food preparation, the ability to be part of the community, and vocational skills are vital for independent living. Most people with ASD are unable to engage in these activities, which creates hardships and isolation for them and their families. Far too often, solutions to this issue are considered the sole responsibility of the person’s family and caretakers rather than the responsibility of society as a whole.

Strategies for teaching people with ASD how to live more independently will be discussed along with the responsibilities of their family, caretakers, and the communities in which they live.
