Planning for Success: Inclusive Education and Autism

Overview

Inclusion is a shared responsibility of all stakeholders across all levels in the education system. Provision of truly inclusive education goes far beyond mere integration of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) into mainstream schools. Inclusion also comes with a need and a challenge to tailor teaching strategies and to make environmental and instructional modifications in the inclusive classrooms to address the diverse learning needs of students with Autism. The current presentation will examine what does inclusion really mean and how to create truly inclusive environments for children with Autism. The benefits of inclusive education will be discussed and the challenges and potential barriers to inclusion will be examined.
