رئيسة شعبة إعادة تأهيل الأطفال – مركز السدرة، الدوحة، قطــــر

تتركز خبرتها في مجال الإعاقات الجسدية؛ حيث تكرس نفسها لتحسين جميع جوانب حياة الأطفال ذوي الإعاقة. وتركز ممارستها الطبية حصريًا على الاحتياجات الشاملة لهؤلاء الأطفال، كما لديها خبرة في المشكلات الصحية التي يواجهها ذوو الإعاقة. وقبل أن تنتقل إلى الدوحة، عملت أستاذًا مساعدًا في قسم طب الأطفال وجراحة العظام وإعادة التأهيل في كلية بريتزكر للطب بجامعة شيكاغو. كما عملت مديرة طبية لإعادة تأهيل الأطفال والمراهقين في مستشفى لارابيدا للأطفال، ومستشفى شراينار للأطفال، ومستشفى شواب لإعادة التأهيل. ألقت محاضرات مكثفة حول احتياجات الأطفال ذوي الإعاقة، وظهرت كأخصائية رعاية صحية في كافة العروض الصباحية على شاشات المحطات في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.
وفي عام 2004 ، أسست CAMP Chicago للمساعدة في تعزيز الدمج الكامل للأطفال ذوي الإعاقة في مختلف الأنشطة الترفيهية والثقافية في جميع أنحاء منطقة شيكاغو؛ حيث يتم تكييف وتعديل جميع الأنشطة للسماح لجميع الأطفال بالمشاركة، بغض النظر عن إعاقاتهم الجسدية. وCAMP Chicago مجاني ويمول بالكامل من التبرعات.
حصلت ثورنتون على شهادة البكالوريوس في جامعة فيسك ودرجتها الطبية من جامعة ميتشيغان. أتمت فترة تدريبها التخصصي في مجال طب الأطفال في مستشفى الأطفال التذكاري في شيكاغو، وفترة تدريب الطبيب المقيم في معهد إعادة التأهيل في شيكاغو حيث قادت زميلاتها كمقيم رئيسي.

Dr. Lisa Thornton

Chief of the Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation - Sidra Medicine, Doha, Qatar

Lisa’s expertise resides in physical disability and is dedicated to improving all aspects of the lives of children with disabilities. Her medical practice focuses exclusively on the holistic needs of these kids. Her expertise also covers health issues that people with disabilities face. Before moving to Doha, she was an assistant clinical professor with the departments of Pediatrics and Orthopedics & Rehabilitation at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine. She was also medical director of pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation at LaRabida Children’s Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital for Children, and Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital. She has lectured intensively about the children with disabilities needs and has appeared as a healthcare specialist on every network morning show in the US.
In 2004, Dr. Lisa founded CAMP Chicago, which helps fostering full inclusion of children with disabilities in various recreational and cultural activities throughout the Chicago area. All activities are adapted to allow all the children to participate, regardless of their physical limitations. CAMP is free and is funded entirely by donations.
Dr. Thornton has received her undergraduate degree at Fisk University and her medical degree from the University of Michigan. She completed pediatric specialty training at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago and her residency with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where she led her peers as Chief Resident.
